Why is Amarillo replacing the water meters?

The City of Amarillo Water Utilities is replacing water meters throughout the city to upgrade to digital meters. The new meters will operate with the best technology currently available to provide more water use data to the city and its residents. The additional data will help Amarillo improve customer service.

When will I get a new meter?

For the new meter and installation, there will be no added charges.

The city will complete the replacement of all meters by end of the year 2025, as equipment is available and weather permitting. Meter replacement will take place between 8 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday. 

The schedule of notifications includes:

  • A postcard mailed to customers prior to installation.
  • Signs placed in the alleys where installation work is occuring.
  • Day of: Utiliuse staff will be in your neighborhood with clearly labeled vehicles and uniforms.
