Mission Statement
The City Attorney is the chief legal officer for the entire municipal organization. The attorneys are obligated to represent and seek the good of the city government.
Strategic Approach
- represent the City of Amarillo, employees, and officials when sued
- represent the State of Texas in Municipal Court through department’s prosecutors
- conduct negotiations of various kinds
- offer legal advice and counsel to City Council, departments, and officials regarding City government operations and policies
- prepare or review legal documents necessary to accomplish its varied functions
- provide services and support to over 30 boards and commissions
City Prosecutors
The City Prosecutors represent the City of Amarillo and the State of Texas in criminal matters before the City of Amarillo Municipal Court. The City Prosecutor does not represent individual persons appearing before the court and therefore cannot provide legal advice on criminal legal matters. If you believe you need advice on how to resolve your case, consider consulting with a defense attorney.
If you wish to discuss the merits of your claim with the City Prosecutor, you must first set the matter for trial. The prosecutor does not discuss pending cases over the phone, or correspond with you via email. To set your matter for trial, please contact the Amarillo Municipal Court at 806-378-3082.
