About the City Marshal Office

The City Marshal Office enhances Amarillo by promoting responsibility and ensuring everyone follows the city ordinances. The office prioritizes efficiency and meets resident expectations through modern technology and excellent customer service. 

The City Marshal Office has two primary functions. 

Law Enforcement Side — Deputies
Dedicated to enforcing city ordinances, local and state laws. 

Civilian Side — Code Enforcement Officers
Focus on code compliance and do not operate as peace officers.  


Reportable Violations 

Reportable violations include (see below for complaint type descriptions):

  • Commercial vehicle parked in residentially zoned area
  • Operating a business in a residentially zoned area
  • Living in a travel trailer
  • Improper maintenance of fence
  • Open structure
  • Occupying a dwelling without city utilities
  • Having more than two garage sales within a twelve-month period
  • Damaged/dilapidated sign  

Complaint Types and Descriptions

Please review the following criteria for reportable code violations.

◼ Dangerous Structure
A vacant building that is open/unsecured, has broken windows or doors, has fire damage, signs of vagrants using the structure, and/or is structurally unsafe. A structure that has any combination of these can be considered as a dangerous structure. 

◼ Junk Vehicle
A vehicle which has an expired registration and can be described by AT LEAST ONE of the following terms: wrecked, dismantled, discarded or inoperable. Vehicles types include: motor vehicle, aircraft, self-propelled recreational vehicle, or watercraft .

◼ Weeds, Junk and Debris
A property which has overgrown vegetation in excess of eight inches in height, and/or trash, junk or other unsightly materials.  

◼ Code Violations
There are a wide range of violations listed in the Amarillo Municipal Code ordinances.
