About Residential Dumpsters 

Residential collection of refuse includes the use of dumpsters. A dumpster is a large metal container provided by the city designed for the efficient collection and temporary storage of household refuse. Dumpsters are strategically placed in alleys, providing residents with a convenient and centralized location for waste disposal. These containers are intended for regular household waste only.

Accepted and Unaccepted Residential Dumpster Materials

Dumpsters are designed for regular household waste. 

Please avoid placing the following items into dumpsters:

• Heavy or bulky materials — utilize Landfill drop-off or Bulky Item Pick-Up
  • Avoid placing items on the ground in the alley.
  • Utilize these free services for residents

• Liquids — empty containers before disposing
• Dead animals — Email animals@amarillo.gov or call Animal Control at 806-378-3038
• Manure
• Waste oils and grease 
• Tires — Bring tires to the landfill for disposal
• Mattresses — dispose in a roll-off container or bring to the landfill
