Home MenuDriving Safety Course (DSC)
You may start the DSC process online, by mail/email, or in person at the Municipal Court. If you complete the DSC process online you must read STEPS 1 – 11 below. If you select DSC by mail/email, you must submit a letter to the Court requesting to start a DSC. The correspondence will be reviewed and paperwork will be sent to you with further instructions.
If you have not completed a DSC in the 12 months prior to the date on the citation, then you will not need the Court's approval to take the DSC for a moving violation dismissal. However, certain traffic offenses cannot be dismissed by DSC, such as passing a school bus, leaving the scene of an accident, and traffic offenses committed in a construction zone with workers present.
Please carefully read the following requirements for the DSC process:
- Only courses approved by The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation may be taken.
- You must have a valid Texas driver’s license or permit for the Court to accept the course.
- You must provide proof of valid financial responsibility at the time of the violation.
- Violations for speeding in excess of 24 m.p.h. over the speed limit are not eligible for dismissal.
- Holders of a commercial driver’s license (CDL) are not eligible to take a DSC regardless of whether the offense occurred in a private vehicle.
- The court cannot dismiss your traffic citation without the Certified Copy of your Driving Record. In addition, the Court will not accept the DSC if your driving record shows you have taken this course within the last twelve (12) months.
- Only “moving violations” can be dismissed with a DSC. If you are unsure what type of violation you have, contact the Court.
You must complete the DSC within ninety (90) days from the date of your plea. Further extensions will not be granted by the Court. You must turn in the Affidavit, copy of driver’s license, proof of insurance, DSC Completion Certificate and Certified Copy of your Driving Record to the court by the end of the 90-day period in order to have the violation dismissed.
DSC courses completed prior to date of your plea will NOT be accepted by the Court.
You will be notified by mail if the Court cannot accept your documents you provide for dismissal.
