What does the Solid Waste Department do?
The Solid Waste Collection and Disposal Division ensures safe and environmentally efficient pickup, transportation, compaction, and daily cover of the community's non-hazardous waste at Transfer Stations and the Landfill, in compliance with federal, state, and local permit regulations.
When does my trash get picked up?
Trash pickup days are typically twice per week for Amarillo residents, but inclement weather and holidays may alter your pickup days. Please call Solid Waste at 806-378-6813 for information specific to your residence.
Why was my trash pick-up missed?
There could be several reasons for a missed trash pick-up. These include holiday schedule changes, weather disruptions, blocked access to the trash container, or mechanical issues with the collection truck. Please ensure your trash is placed out by the designated time and that it is not obstructed if on a polycart or hand-collection route.
What materials are accepted in Residential Dumpsters?
Residential dumpsters are intended for regular household waste only. Accepted materials include typical household trash that can be securely bagged for disposal. Avoid placing heavy or bulky materials in residential dumpsters. Items like liquids, dead animals, manure, waste oils and grease, tires, and mattresses should not be disposed of in residential dumpsters. Instead, use alternative disposal methods provided by the city.
What are the hours of operation for the landfill?
For residents of Amarillo discarding normal household waste, there is no fee. However, there is a disposal fee for materials resulting from construction or demolition, even for residents.
The landfill is located at 16250 Bezner, Amarillo, TX. Hours vary throughout the year:
November through March: Monday to Saturday, 8 am to 5 pm; Sunday closed.
April through October: Monday to Friday, 8 am to 7 pm; Saturday 8 am to 5 pm; Sunday closed.
Where are the brush site locations, and hours of operation?
The brush sites are located at 3401 Broadway and 3718 S Eastern. They operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 8:00AM to Noon. They are closed in the afternoons for processing.
How do I dispose of bulky household items?
Bulky household items should never be placed in the alleyway. Residents can dispose of bulky items by placing them on the curbside for pick-up or dropping them off at the landfill. Curbside pickup and landfill disposal are both free services offered to City of Amarillo residents. The city also offers roll-off location throughout the city for disposal of bulky items.
How do I schedule a curbside (bulk item) pickup?
To schedule pick-up of bulky items such as furniture, mattresses, and large household appliances, please contact Solid Waste at 806-378-6813 or fill out the Curbside Collection Request form. Ensure items are placed on the curb for pick-up on the scheduled date.
How do I report illegal dumping?
To report illegal dumping, you can call our office at (806) 378-6813. Please provide as much detail as possible, including the location, time, and any identifying information.
What are roll-off containers, and where are they located?
Roll-off containers provided by the city are open-top containers, equivalent to the size of three regular-sized dumpsters, available for residential trash disposal. Roll-off containers are strategically located at various sites including Amarillo Downtown Library, East Branch Library, North Branch Library, Northwest Branch Library, Southwest Branch Library, Eastridge Elementary School Park, Bones Hooks Park, and San Jacinto Park. Please note that roll-off containers are designated for residential trash only.
What materials does the City of Amarillo recycle?
The City of Amarillo provides locations where residents can drop-off oil, oil filters, tin, and aluminum at designated locations free of charge at the following locations:

Where can I recycle cardboard?
Cardboard recycling is available for City of Amarillo Residents free of charge. The City has contracted with KB Recycling to provide cardboard recycling at the following drop-off locations:

Southwest Branch Library at 6801 W 45th Street
East Branch Library at 2232 E 27th Street
