P.R.E.P. Academy, offered by the Community Development Department, is a program designed to prepare individuals for employment and career advancement. Participants work part-time as city employees, engaging in city beautification, assisting with food services for individuals experiencing homelessness, and contributing to special projects. The program also includes essential job skills training, such as computer literacy, workplace etiquette, safety, resume writing, and interviewing.

P.R.E.P. Academy is intended for individuals entering or re-entering the workforce who need to build job skills, gain experience, and improve their employment prospects. It is especially beneficial for those facing challenges such as limited work experience or skills gaps.

Participants work on city beautification projects, including maintaining parks, trails, and community gardens. They also assist with food services for individuals experiencing homelessness and participate in various special community projects.

Participants receive training in essential job skills, including computer literacy, workplace etiquette, safety, resume writing, and interviewing. This training helps build a strong work history and prepares individuals for stable employment.

The P.R.E.P. Academy is a 90-day program. Participants work approximately 26 hours per week, typically from Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

A new cycle of P.R.E.P. Academy begins every 90 days. Openings are posted on the City of Amarillo job portal at careers.amarillo.gov when the cycle opens.
