AMARILLO, TX – For the 43rd time, the City of Amarillo has earned the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).

According to GFOA standards, the Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. The city’s CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story.

In addition, the City of Amarillo also earned the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting (PAFR Award) by the GFOA for the ninth time. This honor was for the Sept. 30, 2018 fiscal year. Each eligible report is reviewed by judges who evaluate the report based on several categories, including reader appeal, understandability, distribution methods and creativity.

“Both awards are tremendous honors for the city and its staff,” said City of Amarillo Finance Director Laura Storrs. “These awards represent the commitment and dedication of city employees to guaranteeing that the city’s finances are reviewed and reported in the best and most effective way possible for taxpayers.”
