Bicycle Tree Sculpture Coming

to Rick Klein Trails

AMARILLO –  Rick Klein Trails will be home to unique art that captures the spirit of the trails – trees and bicycles.

Thanks to the creativity and generosity of local artist Orville Ladehoff and others, the City of Amarillo (COA) Parks and Recreation Department has received a donation of a Bicycle Tree Sculpture.

The sculpture will be unveiled Thursday (Sept. 7) at 11 a.m. at the Rick Klein Sports Complex, 3901 S. Grand St.

“The City of Amarillo Parks and Recreation Department is thrilled to add this one-of-a-kind art to the Rick Klein Sports Complex,” said COA Director of Parks and Recreation Michael Kashuba. “The sculpture symbolizes what the complex and the trails are all about – enjoying the outdoors. We greatly appreciate Mr. Ladehoff for his dedication and commitment in donating this art to the city, and to all who have volunteered their time and efforts.”

The sculpture is approximately 12 feet tall and more than six feet wide. It features 12 bicycles and will mark the entrance of the hiking and bicycle trails.

Skyrite, a local sign company, donated its services to transport the sculpture, which weighs around 600 pounds, to the Rick Klein Sports Complex. The bicycles used to create the tree were donated by Matt Melvyn.
