INDIE LENS POP-UP SCREENING: I Am Not Your Negro

Filmmaker Raoul Peck uses author James Baldwin’s original words, spoken by Samuel L. Jackson, to bring to life a book Baldwin never finished. I Am Not Your Negro, which was nominated for a 2016 Academy Award for best documentary, was to be a revolutionary, personal account of the lives and successive assassinations of three of his close friends — Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King Jr. The resulting film is a radical examination of race in America, connecting the past of the Civil Rights Movement to the present of #BlackLivesMatter.  The film will debut Jan. 15 on Panhandle PBS and online Jan. 16.  This screening is hosted by Panhandle PBS, the Amarillo branch of the NAACP and Amarillo Public Library.  Doors open at 6 and the film starts at 6:30.
