MODERN PERSPECTIVES on the HOLOCAUST:

Eyewitnesses to the Nazi Rise to Power

Saturday, October 8, 2:30 PM  ̶  Amarillo Civic Center Heritage Room (doors open at 2:00 PM)

Andrew Nagorski, author of Hitlerland: American Eyewitnesses to the Nazi Rise to Power, and Saving Freud: The Rescuers Who Brought Him to Freedom

During the 1920s and 1930s, many Americans--journalists, diplomat, academics and others--found themselves in Germany, observing the cascade of events that would lead directly to World War II and the Holocaust.  Based on their firsthand accounts and interviews, Nagorski will describe their experiences and perspectives--and what conclusions they drew at the time rather than with the benefit of hindsight. He will also place their experiences in context, noting that even some prominent German and Austrian Jews were slow to recognize the catastrophe in the making. Among them was Sigmund Freud, the subject of Nagorski's latest book Saving Freud: The Rescuers Who Brought Him to Freedom.

This Americans and the Holocaust related program is made possible, in part, by the support of Panhandle PBS, and the Friends of the Amarillo Public Library. Attendance is free and open to the public.
