The City of Amarillo has launched a new Utility Billing System. This new platform will offer easy ways to pay your utility bill and monitor your water usage.

The New Utility Billing System has launched as of March 31, 2026.

Access the Utility Billing Portal to view, manage, and pay your bill online.

New Utility Billing System has launched

What this means for you
  • All accounts now have a new account number.
  • You need to use your new account number from now on to pay your bill.
  • If you would like to utilize the online system, you must register with the new account number.
  • Previous online AutoPay and Paperless customers will need to re-enroll in AutoPay and Paperless billing in the new system. Previous system account settings are no longer active.
  • Register online and sign up for paperless billing to receive a $10 credit on your next month’s bill.

Note: No late fees will be charged through May. This does not apply to accounts that were already past due.

New Account Number Lookup Tool

Use the tool below to look up your new account number using your zip code and previous account number. You will need this new account number to register online and make payments.

What Do I Need to Do?

The first bill in the new system will be mailed to all Utility Billing Customers in April, even if you had previously been paperless.

  • Locate your new account number (on your April paper bill or use the account lookup tool above).
  • Choose how you would like to pay:
    • Manage your utility account online
    • Pay-by-Phone — 806-576-1932
    • In person — City Hall (623 S Johnson)
    • Drive Through — north side of City Hall (Monday-Friday, 11am-2pm)
    • By Mail to PO Box 100, Amarillo, Texas 79105

IMPORTANT: Previously scheduled payments and AutoPay are no longer active. Avoid missed payments by setting them up in the new system.

Online Account

To create a new online account, you will need:

  • Account Number listed on the new April bill, or available on the Account Lookup Tool above
  • Phone Number or Driver’s License Number listed on your account
  • Zip Code of the service address

The new system gives you more ways to pay:

  • Make a one-time payment
  • Schedule recurring payments
  • Pay multiple accounts in one place
  • Sign up for paperless billing and email notifications
  • Continue paying in person, by mail, or over the phone — those options stay the same

Utility Billing System Transition FAQs

The City updated its billing system in 2019. In 2023, an online payment option was added through Paymentus. The current update replaces the core billing system itself.

We understand the change can be frustrating. The current system has had limitations that made it harder for customers to manage their accounts and for staff to provide service. It doesn’t support things like water usage or automated payment plans, and the new system is intended to improve those issues.

No. Account numbers will change with the new utility billing system. The new software does not support carrying over existing account numbers. Customers will receive their new account number on their April utility bill.

Even though the payment processing software, Paymentus, is still being used to process payments, the billing system and customer portal are completely new. Because of that, previous payment profiles do not transfer over, and customers will need to create a new account and re-enroll preferred payment options.

Customers are hearing about the change closer to the launch (March 31) because access to the new system, including registration and new account numbers, is not available until it goes live. The goal is to share information when customers can actually take action, such as setting up their account and making payments.

Customers are being notified through multiple channels, including social media, email, local media alerts, City newsletter, updates on the City’s website, and bill inserts included in the March billing cycle in both English and Spanish. In addition, all customers will receive a mailed bill in April that includes their new account number.

Yes. All utility billing customers will receive a paper bill in April that includes their new account number.

Late fees will be waived through the month of May to allow time for customers to set up their new account. However, account balances and due dates still apply, and accounts that are already delinquent or become delinquent may be subject to shutoff.
