Crime Stoppers

Amarillo Crime Stoppers is a community-driven program designed to help solve crimes and make Amarillo a safer place. Established in 1979, it operates as an independent nonprofit organization supported by local media, businesses, social clubs, law enforcement, and the public. By providing an anonymous way to report tips, Crime Stoppers plays a vital role in assisting law enforcement and preventing crime.

Whether you have information about a crime, recognize someone from a “Do You Know Me?” post, or want to follow up on a submitted tip, Crime Stoppers is here to help. Community donations, including airtime, newspaper space, and rewards, make this program an essential tool for promoting safety in Amarillo.

File a police report

The Amarillo Police Department provides an Online Reporting System for non-emergency incidents occurring within city limits. This system is an efficient way to report minor crimes or incidents and receive a report number for your records. If it’s an emergency or the crime is in progress, call 911 immediately. 

Reports filed online are reviewed by APD, and you may be contacted if further investigation is required. For updates or additional information on a report, you can reach the Detective Division at (806) 378-4262.

Warrant Information

If you need to find out whether you have an outstanding warrant, the Amarillo Municipal Court provides a searchable warrant list online. Please note that information on the website is updated daily but may have delays due to processing, so recent changes may not yet be reflected.

Keep in mind that searches by name may not always be accurate because of variations in spelling or the use of middle, maiden, or married names. For the most accurate information or specific questions about the Court Issued Warrant List, you can contact the Amarillo Municipal Court directly at (806) 378-9342.

Submit a Complaint

If you have concerns about police services or officer conduct, the Amarillo Police Department provides options for submitting a complaint. Complaints can be made directly to a supervisor, through the Internal Affairs Office, or by completing a Citizen Complaint Form. APD is committed to fair treatment and investigates all complaints to ensure professionalism and accountability within the department.

If you need to file a police report for a non-emergency incident within Amarillo city limits, you can use the Amarillo Police Department’s Online Reporting System. Sex offender registration

Sex offender registration is handled at the Amarillo Police Department’s Sex Offender Registration Office (Room 361) on the third floor. Community outreach programs

The Amarillo Police Department offers several ways for citizens to engage with and support their community. Amarillo Police Academy

The Amarillo Police Academy provides 32 weeks of intensive training for recruits, covering classroom learning, practical skills, and scenario-based training. Recruits also complete a 16-week Field Training Officer Program before being assigned to a permanent shift. The academy prepares officers to pass the Texas Basic Peace Officer licensing exam and exceed state-mandated training requirements.

Accident report for insurance

Certified copies of Texas Peace Officer’s Crash Reports (CR-3) can be purchased online through the TxDOT Crash Report system. This service makes it easy to obtain official records for insurance or legal needs.

Public shooting Range

The Amarillo Police Department operates a public shooting range open to citizens for training and practice. It’s a safe environment where you can improve your firearm skills under guidelines designed to promote safety and responsible firearm use. Contact APD for more details on hours and policies.

The non-emergency number for police, fire, ambulance, or animal management calls is (806) 378-3038. This connects you to the Amarillo Emergency Communications Center, which handles both emergency and non-emergency dispatch services.

If it’s an emergency, always call 911. For non-emergencies, you can call (806) 378-3038 to report the incident.

 

No, if the crime occurred outside of Amarillo city limits, you’ll need to contact the law enforcement agency for the city or county where the incident took place.

Every case has a unique report number, starting with the year, such as 2023-XXXXXX. Call the Detective Division at (806) 378-4251 to speak with the assigned investigator. If you don’t know your case number, the administrative assistant can help locate it using other details you provide.

If you didn’t lose money or provide personal information, you don’t need to file a report. Caller ID numbers often can’t be traced, so reporting the number won’t help locate the scammer. If you’re unsure or have questions, contact the Crime Prevention Unit at (806) 378-4257 (Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:30 PM).

Applications for permits for door to door sales, as regulated by Amarillo Municipal Code Sec. 14-6-55 to 14-6-62, are available at the Amarillo Police Department’s service desk on the first floor of the building. You can download and complete the application from the link below and bring it to the police department or fax it to (806)378-3058. You will be required to provide identification and any state licenses required by your business (normally alarm or security related) when picking up the permit. Applications are normally processed within one business day.

Solicitor’s Permit Application

68-A inspections are held every Wednesday at 9:00 AM on a first-come, first-served basis at 13651 I-40 West, one mile west of Cadillac Ranch behind the JP 3 office. The fee is $40.00, payable by money order only. Inspections may be canceled for bad weather or holidays. For appointments at other locations or questions, call (806) 379-2871.

68-A Vehicle Inspection document

The Amarillo Fire Department operates 13 fire stations across the city, ensuring comprehensive coverage for emergency response.

AFD stations respond to various emergencies, including fire suppression, medical emergencies, rescue operations, hazardous materials incidents, wildland fires, and airport firefighting.

Several stations have “Paramedic Engines,” which are equipped with advanced medical tools and staffed by certified paramedics to provide emergency medical services.

AFD offers a wide range of rescue services, including high-angle rescue, trench rescue, building collapse response, swift water rescue, and vehicle extrication.

Fire stations are responsible for maintaining critical equipment, including communication devices, fire extinguishers, SCBAs, PPE, and hydraulic rescue tools.

Station 10 is responsible for Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) at the city’s airport, providing specialized equipment and trained personnel for air travel safety.

AFD conducts ongoing training programs for various emergency situations, such as wildland firefighting, heavy rescue, SCBA usage, and pre-planning for fire incidents.

Yes, the Central Fire Station offers tours and has a museum to educate the public about firefighting. To schedule a visit, you must complete the Community Event Request Form and coordinate with the AFD office.
