The Planning Department works primarily with the following ordinances.

Airport Overlay
Identifies where limitations for height and land use exist in proximity to the airport. (Also known as Airport Clear Zone)
DAUDS
Determines if a property falls within the Downtown Amarillo Urban Design District.
Historic Preservation
Details requirements for modifications to, or demolition of, historic structures and landmarks.
Landscaping
Addresses minimum requirements for amount and location of landscaping for eligible projects.
Neighborhood Associations
The Recognized Neighborhood Association program will assist Amarillo’s redeveloping neighborhoods through official recognition by the City of those that are voluntarily organizing and actively engaged in improving the quality of life in their neighborhoods.
Subdivisions
Addresses the creation or combination of lots within the City of Amarillo and the 5-mile extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ). Contains subdivision design standards, public improvement regulations and the use of right-of-way, requirements for preliminary plans, and other related regulations.
Zoning
Addresses zoning districts, land use categories, building setbacks, parking requirements, and other related regulations.
