The Planning Department enhances the quality of life in Amarillo by guiding growth, development, and redevelopment through ordinances, zoning, neighborhood revitalization, and economic development.

The department manages Current Planning, Long-Range Planning, Neighborhood Plans, and Economic Development.

Let the Planning Department know about your project if it involves things like changing property zoning, new construction plans, rezoning requests, site development, or specific land uses. Not sure? Calling ahead is a good idea. Call 806-378-6290 to speak to the Planning Department.

A map of  Zoning Districts for Amarillo city limits is available online. Locate your area on the map and utilize the Legend to see what your area is currently zoned as.

A minor plat is when someone divides land into four or fewer lots, and all these lots face an existing street. It doesn’t involve extending any city services to these lots.

Notification is needed when replanning an area that has restrictions for no more than two homes per lot, either through zoning rules or deed restrictions. This ensures that affected parties are informed about the changes.
