The City of Amarillo is partnered with Amarillo Housing First to conduct a six-month pilot of the Homeless Outreach Providing Encouragement (HOPE) program. The HOPE program seeks to create an innovative, proactive approach to connect Amarillo’s homeless population to our community’s support services as part of our on-going commitment to move this population from crisis to stability and beyond.
Amarillo Housing First will be conducting the six-month pilot program from May through October 2017. At least two days a week, a program coordinator will recruit persons from the homeless community in Amarillo to work for approximately 6 hours cleaning up pre-identified areas of Amarillo. During the work period, the participant will receive a meal and will interact with case managers to complete a coordinated assessment, identifying the participant’s needs. Case managers will coordinate with community support service agencies and groups to connect the participant with local support services.
The program will track a number of performance metrics as part of the on-going evaluation of how the program is positively impacting the lives of those most in need. Information will be entered into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) for review by City Council, program advocates, and the public.
