Downtown Parking Options

Citizens and visitors can utilize nearby city-owned surface lots, which are free, except during Hodgetown events when a portion is designated for paid parking.

  • On-Street: Timed parking is available on downtown streets. Be sure to check posted signs for time limits, as they may vary location.
  • Parking Garage: Located at 600 S. Buchanan, the garage is open 24/7. Fees are $4 for every 2 hours, with a maximum of $11 per 24-hour period (special pricing may apply on event days). Payment is accepted via credit or debit card only.
Parking Violations

Parking violations in Amarillo are civil, meaning they are non-criminal offenses, resulting primarily in fines rather than criminal records or penalties. Civil parking citations generally involve violations like exceeding time limits or improper parking. However, citations for parking in handicapped spaces or fire lanes are considered criminal violations and carry more serious consequences.

If you receive a parking citation, you are required to either pay the fine or request a civil administrative hearing within 12 days to contest the citation if you believe it was issued in error. This hearing process allows you to address any issues with the citation in a formal setting without the involvement of criminal charges, except in cases involving handicapped or fire lane violations. If your request is approved, you must attend the scheduled administrative hearing.
