Protecting human health through conducting inspections on food establishments, recreational water facilities, daycares & foster homes, on-site sewage facilities, and by controlling the mosquito population.
The department operates under the City of Amarillo and is a member of the Amarillo Area Public Health District, providing fee-based services to all citizens in Potter and Randall County, which includes Amarillo, Canyon, the Villages of Timbercreek, Lake Tanglewood, Palisades, and the Town of Bishop Hills.
Environmental Health Department’s Role and Services
- Conducts formal inspections of food establishments, mobile food units, pool and spa facilities, septic systems, and daycare/foster homes.
- Monitors and controls the mosquito population.
- Enforces and educates on federal, state, and local codes to control food and waterborne illnesses.
- Engages with the community to resolve environmental health concerns.
- Reviews construction and land use plans, providing recommendations.
