Amarillo, TX – Beginning Friday, Sept. 22, the City of Amarillo will consolidate the four currently operated brush sites and move them to one site at the new compost facility at the City’s landfill, located at 16250 Bezner Rd. The City’s brush sites will no longer accept brush and tree trimmings which will now need to be delivered to the compost facility.
This consolidation comes after five community meetings where staff gathered the public’s opinion then presented the findings to the Amarillo City Council. Factors for the consolidation included changes to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality rules and regulations, encroachment, equipment travel and transport, illegal dumping, commercial dumping, fire potential, and permit issues.
Operating hours for the compost facility are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the summer months (April through October) and Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the winter months (November through March). The eastern brush site located at 3718 S. Eastern is currently closed for cleanup after a recent fire.
Over the next six to nine months, staff will grind the remaining brush and will haul the chips to the compost facility.
