Runoff Election

A runoff election was ordered for June 24, 2023 for Councilmember, Place 1 and Councilmember, Place 4. The City of Amarillo will contract with the Potter County Election Administrator and the Randall County Election Administrator to conduct the runoff election.

The next General Election for City of Amarillo Mayor and Councilmember Places One through Four will be held on May 6, 2023 at various polling location within Amarillo City limits. The City of Amarillo contracts with the Potter County Election Administrator and the Randall County Election Administrator to conduce the voting, but a candidate’s required election documents are filed with the City Secretary’s office.

 Applications Filed for the May 6, 2023 General Election

Qualifications of Mayor, Councilmembers, and other officers and employees as outlined in the City of Amarillo Charter, Art. V, Sec. 4:

  • The Mayor and each Councilmember shall be resident citizens of the City of Amarillo, have the qualifications of registered voters therein and shall have been a resident citizen of the City of Amarillo for a period of twelve (12) months immediately preceding such election.
  • The Mayor, Councilmembers and other officers and employees shall not be indebted to the City; shall not hold any other public office of emolument and shall not be interested in the profits or emolument of any contracts, job, work or service for the municipality, or interested in the sale to the City of any supplies, equipment, material or articles purchased.
  • Any officer or employee of the City who shall cease to possess any of the qualifications herein required shall forthwith forfeit office and any such contract in which any officer or employee is or may become interested may be declared void by the Council.
  • No officer or employee of the City (except policemen and firemen in uniform, or wearing an badge), shall accept any frank, free ticket, passes or service, or anything of value, directly or indirectly from any person, firm or corporation, upon terms more favorable than are granted to the public.
  • Any violation of this section shall be a misdemeanor, and on conviction of such violation, such office or employment shall be forfeited

Applications for a place on the ballot for the May 6, 2023 Election will be accepted starting January 18, 2023 during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The last day to file for a place on the ballot is February 17, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.
