2023-2024 Street Maintenance Project FAQs
When will my street be closed?
A project status map is available for this project. The map indicated which streets are scheduled to be worked on within the next 48 hours.
Why does the City of Amarillo do this type of construction on streets?
Routine maintenance is essential for managing street assets cost-effectively. Well-timed treatments, like those in this project, help keep streets in good condition by preventing water damage to the road’s interior. This extends the lifespan of the roads by several years. While construction can be inconvenient, the street maintenance program is much less disruptive than full street reconstruction projects.
What can I do to help make sure this project is a success?
Residents are strongly encouraged to obey the construction signs and barricades, and are asked to stay off the newly resurfaced streets until they are reopened to traffic by the contractor. We also ask that you help by checking this website for construction updates, and keep from parking on the roadway during the time that your street is scheduled for maintenance.
Will my trees be trimmed as part of this project?
Trees that could interfere with street maintenance equipment may need to be trimmed. Amarillo Municipal Code 4-6-185(1) requires tree branches to be at least fourteen and one-half feet above the street. Trees not meeting the ordinance may be trimmed by the City’s contractor at no cost to you. However, a tree trimmed by the City’s contractor will be trimmed to meet the City ordinance and the finished product may not be as you wish it to look.
Staff is happy to meet at your property to discuss your trees and any questions you may have.

Where can I find my car if it has been moved?
If your car has been relocated, look around the corner! The contractor has been given explicit direction to place your car nearby on a road that will be out of the active construction area. Check around the block.
How much will I be charged if my car gets towed?
The purpose of relocating a vehicle is to ensure that you get the best product on your roadway possible; therefore, we are providing that service at no cost to you and your vehicle will NOT be impounded.
Why does my street look different than streets in other parts of the project?
For each street, the most suitable products are being selected. Decisions on what product to use are based on:
- Roadway conditions
- Neighborhood characteristics (driveways, street widths, alley use, etc.)
- Product strengths and limitations
- Impact on citizen access
- Equipment needed for maintenance
We continually improve our maintenance approach each year and adjust for changing conditions like weather, material costs, and budget. This flexibility allows us to make informed decisions for effective street maintenance.
