Amarillo Public Library Overview

Founded over a century ago by the visionary Just Us Girls (JUG) Club with a modest collection of 123 books, the Amarillo Public Library has grown into a dynamic and essential part of our community. Today, the library system includes a Central Library in downtown Amarillo and four additional branches, serving more than two thousand visitors daily and circulating over two million items annually.

Our library offers something for everyone. With a collection of over 800,000 books, magazines, and media materials, along with 83 public computers providing over 100,000 hours of internet access each year, the Amarillo Public Library supports learning, creativity, and connection. Meeting facilities are available at all locations for non-profit organizations, providing a community space for gatherings and events.

As the headquarters of the Harrington Library Consortium, Texas’s only multi-institutional cooperative library network, the Amarillo Public Library collaborates with public, school, and academic libraries to enhance resource sharing and innovation across the state.

Our commitment to excellence has been recognized by the Texas Municipal Library Director’s Association with the Achievement of Library Excellence Award each year since 2015.
