Collection and Use of Personal Information
All comments, questions, or other disclosed information containing personal identifiable information in the form of electronic mail, on-line web, or a response to a survey and/or solicitation from the City of Amarillo website shall remain City property, and such information is subject to the Texas Public Information Act and applicable federal legislation. The Texas Attorney General’s Office provides
information pertaining to the Texas Public Information Act. Each governmental body shall be contacted directly about the records they keep, and their use of personally identifiable information. This information collected is not confidential on the part of the City of Amarillo nor shall the City be liable for the use or disclosure of such information collected.
In regard to online city government transactions conducted on the City of Amarillo website, specific information is requested about the individual and/or organization with which one is affiliated. Online information requested includes the same information that would be requested if the transaction was performed in person. When personal information is requested, an indicator will disclose whether the personal information is mandatory or optional. Collected information for a transaction is used for the following purposes:
- Conduct online transactions with the appropriate City government entities (for example, parking ticket and utility billing payments, etc.).
- Send a transaction confirmation email.
- Forward announcements, bulletins, or content features upon request to receive such services.
Certain information collected is considered private information under state and federal law and will not be released unless required by an Attorney General ruling or Court Order:
- Social security number.
- Driver’s license number.
- Credit card information.
- Bank account information.
The City of Amarillo fully cooperates with law enforcement agencies in identifying those who use City services for illegal activities. The City website may be required by law enforcement or judicial authorities to provide personally identifiable information to the appropriate governmental authorities. We reserve the right to report to law enforcement agencies any activities that the City believes in good faith to be unlawful.
