water saving tips
How can I save water during showers?
Take shorter showers and turn off the water while shampooing or applying soap. Short showers consume about half the volume of a typical tub bath.
What can I do to conserve water with my faucets?
Install water-efficient shower heads and faucets, and aim for a flow rate of 2 gallons per minute (gpm). Additionally, check all faucets for leaks and repair them as necessary.
How can I reduce water usage with toilets?
Install low-volume toilets that flush 1.28 gallons per flush (gpf), which can save up to 30% of indoor water use.
How can I detect and fix leaks in my plumbing?
Use the water meter to check for leaks by turning off all taps and observing the meter for movement. If there is movement, it indicates a leak that needs to be repaired.
What's the best way to save water when doing laundry?
Match the washing machine setting to the actual load size to avoid unnecessary water usage.
How can I minimize water consumption while washing dishes?
Wash dishes only when the dishwasher is full or hand wash small loads to conserve water.
What strategies can I use to save water in landscaping?
Group your landscape plants by water requirements, set sprinklers to avoid watering sidewalks, and use soaker hoses for shrubs and trees.
How can I conserve water when irrigating my lawn?
Turn off the sprinkler system for several days after a good rainfall, and avoid irrigating during windy weather to prevent excessive evaporation.
What's the best lawn mowing practice for water conservation?
Avoid mowing your turf too short when mowing, as grass holds water better when it is maintained at a height of 1.5 to 2.5 inches.
What is the best time to water outdoor plants?
Irrigate in the early morning (before 10 AM) or in the evening to minimize water loss due to evaporation, and avoid watering during windy conditions.
What other plant watering tips are there?
Collect rainwater for indoor and outdoor plants, water plants with discarded aquarium water or leftover ice cubes, and catch cold water in a bucket while waiting for hot water to use for watering plants.
