Jury Duty Overview
All individuals summoned for jury duty by the Amarillo Municipal Court are required to report as directed. The Court hears cases classified as Class C misdemeanors, which carry fines as their sole penalties. Jurors are selected randomly from registered voters and licensed drivers within the City of Amarillo.
Any person summoned for jury service who fails to appear for or be excused from jury service may be held in contempt of court and fined $100.
Parking for Jurors
Jurors attending Municipal Court have several parking options near the court building:
Municipal Court & Customer Parking Lot: Located on the corner of 4th Avenue and Taylor, providing easy access to the court.
Free Parking: Available in the south parking lot of the Police/Courts building and nearby city-owned lots. Please note that some areas may be reserved for paid parking during events at Hodgetown.
Parking Garage: The garage at 600 S Buchanan is open 24/7. Rates are $4 per 2 hours, with a maximum daily rate of $11, except during special events.
- On-Street: Timed parking is available on downtown streets. Be sure to check posted signs for time limits, as they may vary location.

Am I required to serve on jury duty?
If you are summoned, you are legally required to appear unless you qualify for an exemption.
Any person summoned for jury service who fails to appear or to be excused may be held in contempt of court and fined up to $100.
How long does jury duty last?
Jury service at the Amarillo Municipal Court is for one day only.
How much are jurors paid?
Jurors receive $6.00 per day for their service to Municipal Court.
Can I be excused from jury duty?
You may be excused if any of the following apply to you:
- Under 18 years of age.
- Over 75 years of age.
- Legal custodian of a child under 12, where jury service would leave the child without adequate supervision.
- A student in secondary school or college who will be in class on the day of service.
- The primary caretaker for someone unable to care for themselves (employment as a caregiver does not qualify).
- Physically or mentally impaired or unable to comprehend or communicate in English.
- An employee of the legislative branch of the State of Texas.
- Have served more than five days as a petit juror in county court in the past three months, or in district court in the past six months.
- Not a citizen of Texas or a resident within Amarillo city limits.
- Convicted of a felony or theft offense, or currently under indictment or legal accusation for a felony or theft.
If you are unable to attend jury service but do not meet these criteria, you may submit a letter or a doctor’s statement explaining your inability to appear.
Do I need to return the juror card?

No, Municipal Court Jury Duty selects residents from both Potter and Randall County to serve.
