Community Development manages seven major federal and state funded assistance programs.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development provides:

• Section 8 Rental Housing Choice Voucher
• Community Development Block Grant Programs (CDBG)
• HOME Investment Partnership Programs (HOME)
• Emergency Solutions Grant Program (ESG)
• Continuum of Care programs for the homeless (CoC)
• Homeless Management Information System (HMIS)

The U.S. Department of Agriculture funds Amarillo’s

• Summer Lunch Program

The Community Development Advisory Committee provides oversight and evaluation of Amarillo’s Community Development Programs.Eleven citizens are appointed by the City Commission representing the city’s four geographic quadrants and the CDBG target area. The success of the program relies on Citizen Participation in the ongoing planning and development of programs and activities.

CDBG, HOME, HPRP and Section 8 are entitlement programs for which Amarillo receives federal funding based on the population and demographics of the city. The ESG and CoC programs are competitive grants. The Summer Lunch Program is awarded by annual application.
