The Attorney Program is an opportunity for students interested in law and criminal justice to experience what it is like to represent the defense or prosectution in an actual courtroom setting. Teen Attorneys will be assigned cases and will act as counsel for the defence or prosecution. Training will be provided by local attorneys with oversight by Teen Court Judges as well as the Juvenile Services Coordinator.
The Teen Court Attorney Program is open to students in grades 9-12. Students must sign a confidentiality agreement. Violation of the confidentially agreement will result in removal from the program. A parent/legal guardian is required to give consent for participation in the program.
Teen Court criminal cases requiring Teen Attorneys will be heard the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month. Teen Court is held year-round.
Participation in this program is voluntary and may be applied to school or program volunteer/community service requirements as well as be a positive addition to college and job applications. As the program is developed, there may be competition and scholarship opportunities.
