Signed Lease Brings Amarillo Closer to First Pitch

Posted on Sep 26, 2017

Amarillo, TX – Today (Sept. 26), the City of Amarillo and the Elmore Sports group announced the signing of a 30-year lease paving the way for the construction of the Multi-Purpose Event Venue (MPEV) and professional baseball in 2019.

“The lease that was signed today benefits our community while allowing the Elmore Sports Group to do what they do best – deliver a great product on the field and in the community,” says Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson.

The Elmore Sports Group agreed to pay $400,000 in annual rent to the City, the highest in the Texas League. The rent will address debt service and all capital expenditures related to the stadium. The $45.5 million facility will be paid by Hotel Occupancy Taxes (HOT), not property taxes. The design theme was voted on by Amarillo residents, and the facility will include state-of-the-art amenities. Its downtown location and proximity to local attractions will help boost the economy and build a fan base that extends throughout the region.

The City of Amarillo will retain control of the newly constructed downtown parking garage, including proceeds collected during events held at the MPEV, while the Elmore Sports Group will have access to 1,000 surface parking spaces around the stadium.

“Throughout this process, our goal was to partner with an organization that would provide top-notch management,” says Nelson. “We found a great partner in the Elmore Sports Group, and I appreciate their long-term commitment to the future of Amarillo,” added Mayor Nelson.

“This is a win-win for Double-A baseball and Amarillo,” says D.G. Elmore. “The 30-year lease that was signed today underlines our strong commitment to helping the city achieve its vision of improving local quality of life and growing the local economy. We couldn’t be more pleased with the relationship and excited about the future of professional baseball in Amarillo.”
