Posted on Aug 07, 2017

Amarillo, TX – The City of Amarillo’s Deputy City Manager Bob Cowell has announced he will be leaving in September to join the City of Roanoke, Virginia as their City Manager. Cowell has been with the City of Amarillo since 2013 and has most recently led the City’s efforts at downtown revitalization and capital investments. During his tenure, he has provided leadership for various departments in the City, initiated a number of strategic initiatives aimed at more efficient and effective services, and served a stint as the interim City Manager.

“I have greatly enjoyed my time here in Amarillo,” Cowell says. “It is amazing what the organization has accomplished the last few years and I am grateful to have served with an incredible set of dedicated public servants who work so hard each and every day on behalf of the residents and businesses of this wonderful community. I am indebted to the current and past Mayors and Council Members and City Managers for their support during my time here and wish only the best for Amarillo as I and my family move on to this next chapter of our lives.”

City Manager Jared Miller says that Cowell will be sorely missed as he has been an asset for the City of Amarillo team.

“Bob has done great work during his years in Amarillo,” says Miller. “The City of Amarillo’s loss is Roanoke’s gain and Bob will do a fabulous job in Virginia. We wish the very best for Bob and his family as he continues his career as a public servant.”

Cowell will spend the next couple of weeks helping City Manager Jared Miller ensure a smooth transition of his current responsibilities to others serving on the Executive Team.
