Alley Clean-up Program Changes to Better Serve Residents

Posted on Jun 12, 2017

Amarillo, TX – Beginning Wednesday, June 14, the City of Amarillo Public Works department will make it easier for residents to remove bulky trash, brush, and debris from alleyways. In order to streamline the Solid Waste collection process and provide better customer service, the City of Amarillo will be adding resources to trash collection crews. These crews are now responsible for all trash in the alleys they encounter, including brush and bulky items.

The Public Works department has been testing this in a pilot program and has seen positive results. This is being done in an effort to consistently remove waste and debris, of all types, from the alleyways on a consistent basis and will eliminate the need for citizens to request service for items in the alleys.

If you have large items to dispose of you are encouraged to request curb-side pick up. Upon request, these items will be collected daily. Moving large items to the curb allows for the solid waste vehicles to pick up items quickly without having to navigate alleyways.

The City of Amarillo and the Public Works department request your patience as the new process is implemented. It will take several months for the current bulky trash, brush, and debris to be cleared from the alleyways. Once the crews have completed the backlog, all alleys will be cleared on two-month cycles.

For questions or concerns, or to request curbside pick up, please contact Solid Waste Superintendent David Lehfeldt at [email protected] or (806) 378-6813.
